Islet Society is an independent learned society promoting basic and applied researches involving the Islets of Langerhans, in the context of the pathogenesis, prevention and treatment of diabetes.The society aims to function as a platform for exchange of ideas, encourage collaborations, and promote rapid diffusion and application of new knowledge by a variety of means. Islet Society was established by Md. Shahidul Islam, in 2009.
The first scientific meeting of The Islet Society was held on July 18–19, 2010, in Stockholm, Sweden. The society organizes annual scientific meetings in different parts of the world. The 2018 meeting was on 6-7 September at Vanderbilt. The 2015 meeting was in Sydney. The 2014 meeting was in Cape Town, and the 2013 meeting was in Vancouver.
